Patrick Dwyer

Finance Professional and Founder of the Dwyer Family Foundation

“I love winning at work – and that has helped me stay focused on the task in front of me. I always feel I must get better.”

Patrick Dwyer is a finance professional based in Miami, Florida. Currently at New Edge Wealth, he is formerly of Merrill Lynch and Boston Private.

He attended Providence College, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History, with a minor in Business. Following graduation, he enrolled at the University of Miami. Here, he obtained a Master’s of Business Administration.

He then took a job at Merrill Lynch as a Private Wealth Advisor. He remained here for 26 years. During his tenure, he built the fourth largest private wealth team at the company. The team had 11 members and managed $3.8 billion in assets.

Productivity is an important part of how he was able to become so successful. To maintain a productive day, Patrick Dwyer starts his day at 5 a.m. and catches up on the latest financial news. He is also always focused on winning the task ahead, which helps to keep him focused. He is always striving to become a better version of himself and that mission propels him.

His time spent reading financial news also helps him to develop innovative investment ideas, in addition to meeting with private equity firms and top money managers. In meeting with people face to face, he finds that he is able to learn things he wouldn’t otherwise find in research reports.

When he was younger, Patrick Dwyer’s father donated a lot of money to their church, even when the family was experiencing hard financial times. This generosity instilled in him a need for giving back to his community. He established the Dwyer Family Foundation to continue giving back to his community. He and his wife are very passionate about education and want to ensure that every child has the opportunity to receive a quality schooling. The organization supports educational and religious organizations providing for children with a need in the Miami-Dade area. In the past, they’ve given to schools that offer services for students with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia; programs tailored to promote educational growth for girls and young women; and organizations supporting sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Patrick Dwyer also holds a variety of leadership positions for other charitable organizations. He is on the Board of Trustees for the Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart in Miami and a governing board director for the Telluride Science Research Center and the Neuroscience Centers of Florida Foundation. He is also a supporter of the Key Biscayne Community Foundation, which coordinates philanthropic initiatives in south Florida.
