Landing an idea with the right business can help you become more profitable than ever before. However, you’ll need to make sure that you land the presentation to every business you pitch your idea to, as you can quickly lose the perfect business if you screw up your presentation in any way. Fortunately, you can take a few steps to ensure that you’re able to pitch your idea successfully.

Audience

To prepare for your presentation, you’re going first to want to understand your audience. The reason for this is that they are not only going to be purchasing an idea from you but that you’re likely going to be a partner with that business for an extended period of time. To do this, you’ll want to first look into what industries they are involved with.

For example, the business you’re pitching to could be investing a lot into automobile partners, so you might want to think about modifying your presentation to something that shows it can help the automobile industry. You’ll also want to look at what stages they usually invest into a product idea as it can show that you either need more time to build your idea or that you’re at the perfect time to present what you have. Make sure that you fully understand your audience before pitching an idea to them.

Story

When a business might spend a lot of time fielding product ideas that they don’t use, they don’t want to waste their time thinking about how a product could make sense for them. You need to make sure that you are entirely giving a business an idea of how that product can directly work for them. To do this, you should start telling a story.

When telling a story for a business, you should present a real-life scenario their customers could be in. This story should then progress to describe how that product can help solve that scenario in a way that is either quicker or better than other products on the market today. If the product you are looking to sell has multiple uses, make sure you develop different stories to convince a business. No matter what way you do it, coming up with a story is essential in selling an idea to a business.
